Recap
Matt Moulson and John Tavares each had a goal and an assist and David Ullstrom netted his first NHL goal as the New York Islanders recorded a 5-1 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Tavares, who produced five assists in the previous two games, Matt Martin and defenseman Milan Jurcina each scored in the final six minutes of the first period as the Islanders took a 3-1 lead. It was Tavares’ first goal in 14 games.
Moulson has goals in five straight games as New York improved to 4-0-1 in its last five contests.
Tampa Bay’s Marty St. Louis registered his 800th career point 6:55 into the game when he deflected Brett Clark’s shot through Montoya’s legs for a 1-0 lead. Steven Stamkos had an assist to extend his point streak to eight games.
Al Montoya made 23 saves for the Islanders, who handed the Lightning their fifth straight loss.
Tavares zipped up the slot and scored off a pass from Moulson at 14:01 of the first to tie it 1-1. Martin knocked home Tim Wallace's feed at 18:26 and Jurcina finished a nifty passing play on the power play with 5.5 seconds left. Wallace, recalled Monday, was playing his first NHL game of the season.
Tampa Bay has dropped eight of its last 10 at the Islanders.
New York had 13 players record at least one point.
