Ryan O’Reilly scored the tying goal in the third period and the winner in the third round of the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche cooled off the visiting St. Louis Blues with a 3-2 victory on Friday.
Milan Hejduk and O’Reilly each scored for the second straight game and Semyon Varlamov made 35 stops for the Avalanche (12-13-1), who won two straight games for the first time since Oct. 17.
Kevin Shattenkirk and Patrik Berglund scored for the Blues (14-8-3), who had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-1-3 since Ken Hitchcock took over as coach.
Jaroslav Halak made 33 saves for the Blues, who have lost five straight at Colorado.
Halak stopped O’Reilly with less than one second left in regulation with his left pad after the puck fell off the top of the net and into the crease, and pulled a loose puck off the goal line with 11 seconds left in overtime.
O’Reilly beat Halak with a wrist shot at 9:34 of the third period to tie it 2-2. Berglund’s first goal in 10 games – and fifth of the season – gave the Blues a 2-1 lead in the second.
Shattenkirk, a second-year defenseman, was playing his first game in Colorado since he was traded by the Avalanche on Feb. 19. He scored on the power play at 8:55 of the first period and Hejduk’s ninth of the season came five minutes later.
