Brian Rolston scored to snap a tie midway into the third period as the New York Islanders posted their second straight road win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Matt Moulson tallied for the second time in as many games and Al Montoya turned aside 30 shots for New York, which has won two in a row after recording its third four-game losing skid of the season. With the victory, the Islanders improved to 2-5-2 away this season from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

With the game tied at 1-1, Rolston was able to fend off Nathan Gerbe and backhand the puck between the pads of Jhonas Enroth for his third goal of the season.

Montoya preserved the slim advantage by denying captain Jason Pominville on a one-timer and New York killed off a 5-on-3 disadvantage later in the session.

With Paul Szczechura serving a high-sticking penalty, New York opened the scoring 6:47 into the first period. Captain Mark Streit's blast from the point was deflected by Moulson and past Enroth for his eighth goal of the season. P.A. Parenteau was credited with his team-leading 13th assist.

Jochen Hecht leveled the contest at 1:54 of the third period after collecting a loose puck and stuffing it past Montoya for his second goal in as many games.

Buffalo, which has been decimated by injuries, saw defenseman Jordan Leopold exit the contest in the first period with an upper body injury. He did not return.
