T.J. Brodie's first NHL goal stood as the game-winner in the Calgary Flames' 5-2 triumph over the host Minnesota Wild on Sunday.

The Flames had scored just four goals in their previous three games coming into the night but wasted no time ending that slump, striking three times in the first period to chase Niklas Backstrom from the net.

Calgary cruised from there to end a three-game losing skid while handing the Wild its second straight defeat following five consecutive wins.

The teams combined for five goals in less than seven minutes early in the first period. Cal Clutterbuck's power-play goal for Minnesota at 1:57 was quickly erased by tallies from Mark Giordano and Lee Stempniak in a 2:17 span.

Calgary native Nick Johnson evened the score at 8:06, gathering a pass from Kyle Brodziak and snapping a wrist shot that found the far corner past Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff.

The tie lasted just 39 seconds, as Brodie floated a backhander from in close that somehow eluded Backstrom for his milestone goal. That was it for Backstrom, who was replaced by Josh Harding after allowing three goals on eight shots.

Alex Tanguay made it 4-2 early in the third period and Jarome Iginla extended the lead at 8:26 after winning a battle with Minnesota defender Justin Faulk and redirecting a Curtis Glencross pass from in close. After chirping the Minnesota bench, Iginla was showered with water and drew a Wild unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
