Recap
Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom scored two goals and Jimmy Howard made 22 saves for his seventh career shutout as the Detroit Red Wings snapped a six-game losing streak in style with a 5-0 victory over the road-weary Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg scored 50 seconds apart early in the second period to make it 3-0 as the Red Wings (6-5-1) took 50 shots and won for the first time since starting the season 5-0-0.
Detroit improved to 29-3-0 all-time at home against Anaheim.
Defenseman Niklas Kronwall and Johan Franzen also scored to help Howard snap a four-game slide and improve to 5-0-0 lifetime at home against Anaheim. Franzen has a goal in six straight home games against the Ducks.
Anaheim's Teemu Selanne was serving an unsportsmanlike conduct
penalty when Lidstrom scored on the power play at 1:39 of the third period. Selanne was given a game misconduct following the goal. Selanne and Lidstrom, both 41, are two of the four 40-year-olds active in the NHL.
Lidstrom and Florida's Jason Garrison share the NHL lead among defensemen with five goals.
Jonas Hiller made 40 saves for Anaheim (5-6-3), which has lost five straight and finished its road trip 1-3-3. Hiller was pulled in favor of Dan Ellis after Lidstrom's second tally.
