Steven Stamkos recorded a hat trick and Vincent Lecavalier netted the game-winner 4:06 into overtime as the Tampa Bay Lightning posted a 5-4 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
Marc-Andre Bergeron raced to keep the puck in the zone and fed the puck to Martin St. Louis, who collected one of his three assists after finding Lecavalier for the winner.
It was the fourth career hat trick for Stamkos - with half of them coming against the Blackhawks. Stamkos tied the game at 4-4 with 32.2 seconds left in the second period, one-timing a St. Louis pass from the left circle for his first power-play goal of the season.
Chicago scored three times in a 65-second span to turn a one-goal deficit into a 4-2 lead at 7:22 into the second period. Marian Hossa scored at 6:17, after a nifty feed from Patrick Kane, Dan Carcillo converted on a breakaway at 7:10 and Patrick Sharp added his second goal just 12 seconds later.
The last time the Blackhawks had scored three times in 65 seconds or less was Dec. 20, 1989 when they registered three in 59 seconds against St. Louis.
Stamkos gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead 15 seconds into the second period on a rebound, but Sharp snapped the Lightning’s home shutout streak at 153 minutes, 10 seconds with a power-play goal 50 seconds later. Chicago had been 0-for-19 with the man advantage its previous five games.
