Ryan Smyth scored against his former team, Lennart Petrell added his first NHL goal and Nikolai Khabibulin stayed red-hot as the Edmonton Oilers earned their sixth straight win, a 3-0 decision over the host Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.

Khabibulin turned aside 19 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Oilers completed their first six-game winning streak since March 2002. The veteran netminder, named the NHL's third star for the month of October, hasn't lost in regulation this season (6-0-2).

Following a listless first period in which the Kings managed just three shots on goal, it was Smyth who opened the scoring in his first game since leaving Los Angeles in the offseason. The veteran forward took a shot that glanced off the stick of Kings defenseman Alec Martinez and beat netminder Jonathan Quick at 11:26 of the second period.

Petrell's landmark goal came with 2:22 left in the period, as he converted a Ben Eager pass with Anton Lander standing in Quick's way. Lander picked up an assist on the play for his first career point.

Corey Potter extended the advantage 1:06 into the third, gathering up a pass from Sam Gagner with plenty of time and space to beat Quick.

Quick made 24 saves in defeat.
