Recap
Captain Shane Doan scored for the third straight game and 13 different Phoenix players recorded at least one point as the Coyotes collected their first win of the season with a 5-2 road triumph over the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
Defenseman David Schlemko, Ray Whitney and Lauri Korpikoski netted their first goals of the season in a 6:45-span in the first period for Phoenix, which registered its first even-strength goals of the season. Prior to Thursday's contest, the Coyotes scored all four of their goals on the power play.
Mikkel Boedker also scored an even-strength goal midway through the second to stake Jason LaBarbera to a 4-0 advantage. The netminder, who wore a mask paying tribute to former NFL star turned war hero Pat Tillman, turned aside 23 shots in his season debut.
Defenseman Ryan Suter netted a shorthanded goal and David Legwand set up a pair of goals to increase his point total to an NHL-leading seven on the young season. Colin Wilson also scored midway through the third period, but Nashville saw its string of home-opening wins end at four.
Vezina Trophy finalist Pekka Rinne stopped 26 shots, but fell to 4-2-1 at home in his career against the Coyotes.
