Justin Abdelkader and Valtteri Filppula each recorded their first goals and Jimmy Howard notched his first shutout as the Detroit Red Wings blanked the visiting Vancouver Canucks, 2-0, on Thursday.

The Red Wings have totaled 10 goals in their first three games, each by a different player.

That enviable offensive depth showed itself at the 11:23 mark of the second period, when Todd Bertuzzi picked off a pass in his own zone and shoveled the puck cross ice to Niklas Kronwall on the right side. Kronwall sent the puck across the slot to a streaking Adbelkader, who wristed it past Cory Schneider.

Filppula struck just over two minutes later, taking a drop off from Johan Franzen and blasting it from the right face-off circle on his first touch.

Howard made 23 saves to match Ty Conklin with back-to-back shutouts for Detroit. Since surrendering three third-period goals in the opener, the Red Wings have not allowed a goal in 121:31.

The Canucks, who allowed the fewest goals in the NHL last season, have surrendered 13 through the first four games to start off 1-2-1.
