David Legwand had two goals and two assists for his best offensive effort in nearly five years as the Nashville Predators defeated St. Louis 3-2 Saturday night, spoiling the Blues' home opener.

With the teams tied 1-1 after 40 minutes, Nashville jumped in front early in the third period. Legwand's centring attempt glanced off the skate of St. Louis defenseman Nikita Nikitin and past an unsuspecting Jaroslav Halak with the Predators on the power play.

Jason Arnott's first career goal as a member of the Blues knotted the score at 2-2, but Chris Klein put the Predators back in front for good just 57 seconds later, firing a wrist shot past Halak from the top of the faceoff circle.

Legwand finished off the victory with an empty-net goal with 1:02 remaining, capping his first four-point performance since Jan. 20, 2007 against the Chicago Blackhawks

Blues forward Patrik Berglund opened the scoring at 7:44 of the second period, one-timing a T.J. Oshie feed past Pekka Rinne.

Craig Smith answered back less than four minutes later, knocking home a rebound of a Shea Weber shot to become the first player in franchise history to score in each of his first two NHL games.
