Ville Leino scored twice and added an assist as the Philadelphia Flyers secured some much needed breathing room atop the Atlantic Division on Tuesday with a 5-2 triumph over the host Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jeff Carter, Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux also scored for the Flyers (46-20-10), who lead the Penguins by four points in the race for the division lead. The victory also increased Philadelphia's lead atop the Eastern Conference to three points on the Washington Capitals, who dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to Carolina.

Alex Kovalev and Tyler Kennedy countered for the Penguins (45-24-8), who fell for just the third time in the past 11 contests.

After Kovalev and Carter traded goals in the first period, Kennedy's marker midway through the second put the Penguins in front. Hartnell beat Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury on a wrist shot from in close to even the score at 13:45, and Giroux put the Flyers ahead for good just 47 seconds later with his fifth goal in six games against Pittsburgh this season.

Leino put the game away with a pair of goals a little more than three minutes apart in the third.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves to earn the win while a shaky Fleury stopped 18 shots in defeat.
