Jason Pominville scored the game-winning goal at 1:09 of overtime and Ryan Miller made 29 saves Tuesday to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Montreal Canadiens.
Tyler Ennis scored in regulation and assisted on the overtime goal and Thomas Vanek recorded two assists for the Sabres, who had lost their first three meetings with the Canadiens this season.
David Desharnais gave Montreal the lead at 5:19 of the first period with his second goal of the season, a power-play tally from Roman Hamrlik and James Wisniewski.
Buffalo tied the game in the second period on a man-advantage goal of its own when Ennis buried his 11th of the season from Vanek and Tim Connolly.
Mike Cammalleri, Max Pacioretty and Jeff Halpern all left the game early with injuries and did not return, leaving Montreal with 15 skaters over the last 40 minutes.
Carey Price made 37 saves for the Canadiens.
