Alex Smith threw for a pair of touchdowns as host Kansas City matched its 2012 win total with a narrow win over Dallas.

Smith completed 21-of-36 passes for 223 yards and did not throw an interception for the second straight game for the Chiefs (2-0), who made head coach Andy Reid's home debut with the team a successful one. Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe had touchdown catches from Smith, who was the game's leading rusher with 57 yards.

Tony Romo threw for 298 yards and a touchdown to Dez Bryant, who had nine catches for 141 yards for Dallas (1-1). The Cowboys played turnover-free football until losing two fumbles in the final 15:38 of the contest.

After Smith found Charles on a rollout for a 2-yard touchdown on the game's first possession. Dallas then scored 13 straight points, including a 2-yard connection from Romo to Bryant late in the first quarter, before Smith found Bowe from 12 yards out with 2:53 left in the third to put Kansas City ahead 14-13.

Ryan Succop followed one of the Cowboys' fumbles with a 40-yard field goal to make it 17-13 early in the fourth. Romo was sacked and fumbled on the following possession but later led Dallas into Chiefs territory before the Cowboys had to settle for a 53-yard field goal by Dan Bailey with 3:50 left. A pass interference call on Dallas cornerback Morris Claiborne on third down with 2:32 remaining helped Kansas City burn up most of the clock and pin the Cowboys deep with just seconds left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray was limited to 25 yards on 12 carries. Dallas had just 37 yards on the ground. ... Smith improved to 21-5-1 as a starter. ... Kansas City picked up its second win in 2012 on Dec. 2.
