Recap
Texans 30, Dolphins 10: Arian Foster ran for two touchdowns during a second-quarter scoring spree and host Houston capitalized on a jittery debut by Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Foster rushed for 79 yards on 26 carries as the Texans (1-0) blew the game open with 21 points in the final 1:53 of the opening half.
Matt Schaub, making his first start since missing the final six games last season, threw for 266 yards. He had a 14-yard scoring strike to Andre Johnson with seven seconds left in the first half that gave Houston a commanding 24-3 lead.
After the game, Schaub announced that he had signed a four-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tannehill, the No. 8 overall pick out of Texas A&M, threw interceptions on three consecutive second-quarter drives in a mistake-riddled performance in the head coaching debut of Joe Philbin.
Tannehill finished 20-of-36 for 219 yards and the three interceptions. Miami's only touchdown came on a 72-yard punt return by Marcus Thigpen early in the third quarter.
Johnson, who missed nine games last season with multiple hamstring injuries, returned to his Pro Bowl form with eight receptions for 119 yards and the touchdown.
Houston went ahead to stay at 10-3 following an interception by Brian Cushing that led to Foster's 14-yard scoring run with 1:53 remaining in the half.
Tannehill threw his third straight pick on the next possession, this time to Kareem Jackson, and the Texans needed only two plays for Foster to plow in from 2 yards out.
A fumble by Daniel Thomas capped a four-turnover second quarter by the Dolphins (0-1) and led to Schaub's scoring pass to Johnson.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami RB Reggie Bush accounted for 115 total yards, rushing for 69 and catching six passes for 46. ... Shayne Graham, who spent part of last season with the Dolphins, kicked four field goals for the Texans, who won their third straight season opener. ... Thomas suffered a head injury on his fumble before halftime and did not return.
