Recap: Titans 23, Jaguars 17
Dec 24, 2011
Matt Hasselbeck passed for 350 yards and a touchdown as the Tennessee Titans kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23-17 victory over the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.
Jared Cook made eight catches for 169 yards and a score and Jamie Harper snuck in for a 1-yard rushing touchdown for the Titans (8-7), who bounced back after an embarrassing loss to the Indianapolis Colts last weekend.
Tennessee sits a game behind the Cincinnati Bengals (9-6), who currently occupy the No. 6 spot in the AFC.
The Titans grabbed an early lead on Rob Bironas’ 51-yard field goal and made it 10-0 when Hasselbeck found Cook for a 55-yard score later in the first quarter.
The Jaguars could not get much going in the passing game but managed to stay in it thanks to Maurice Jones-Drew, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.
Jones-Drew’s 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave him 62 for his career, tying Fred Taylor’s franchise record.
Harper capped a seven-play drive with his score and Bironas kicked two more field goals to keep Tennessee clear.
Chris Johnson rushed for 56 yards on 15 carries for the Titans, pulling to within 14 yards of his fourth straight 1,000-yard campaign.
