Nov 28, 2010
Shaun Suisham kicked a 41-yard field goal at the 2:41 mark of overtime to help the Pittsburgh Steelers escape an upset by the host Buffalo Bills 19-16 on Sunday.
Rashard Mendenhall rushed for a touchdown and Suisham kicked four field goals of over 40 yards apiece for the Steelers (8-3), who have won two straight and have a divisional battle coming up against Baltimore next week.
Bills receiver Steve Johnson dropped a wide-open touchdown pass in the end zone prior to Pittsburgh’s winning drive.
Mendenhall got the Steelers on the board in the first quarter when his 1-yard touchdown burst capped a 13-play, 78-yard drive that lasted nearly eight minutes. Pittsburgh would add a pair of field goals and take a 13-0 lead into the break.
The Bills (2-9) finally got on the board in the third quarter when Ryan Fitzpatrick and and Fred Jackson hooked up on a 65-yard pitch and catch. Buffalo added two field goals of its own, capitalizing on a fumble by Mendenhall to knot it at 13-13 with 11:25 left.
The Steelers took the lead back on Suisham’s 48-yard field goal with 6:19 left, but the Bills still had a shot at the end of the game, forcing their way into Pittsburgh territory where Rian Lindell kicked a 49-yard field goal with two seconds left to force overtime.
