Jackson totals seven TDs as No. 7 Louisville rolls BC

BOSTON -- Lamar Jackson became the first quarterback in Louisville history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season as the sevnth-ranked Cardinals routed Boston College 52-7 on Saturday.
The sophomore and Heisman Trophy hopeful accumulated 416 total yards (231 rushing, 185 passing) and seven touchdowns (four passing, three rushing) to add to his national lead of 45 total scores (26 passing, 19 rushing).
It marked the third time this season Jackson totaled seven touchdowns in a game, while no other FBS player has accomplished the feat more than once.
James Quick had 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Jaylen Smith (123 yards) caught another score for Louisville (8-1, 6-1 ACC), which won its fourth straight game and 10th in 11 tries.
The nation's top-scoring offense (50.2 points per game) torched an Eagles' defense, which came in ranked seventh nationally in total defense (298.5 yards per game) for 515 yards (305 passing, 210 rushing).
Before Saturday, the Eagles had never allowed 50 points in a game twice in a season, according to the team's radio broadcast. BC also allowed 50 in a 56-10 home loss to Clemson on Oct. 7.
Patrick Towles threw for 147 yards and a touchdown to Tyler Rouse as Boston College (4-5, 1-5) fell back to earth after snapping a 12-game ACC losing streak with a 21-14 victory at N.C. State last Saturday.
Before that, the Eagles hadn't won a conference game since beating Syracuse 28-7 on Nov. 29, 2014.
Boston College lost the last four meetings dating back to 1998 and trails the all-time series 6-3. BC's last win in the series came at Louisville in 1994, a 35-14 victory.
Jackson shredded the Eagles' defense for 290 total yards and five touchdowns (four passing) while guiding four scoring drives under 1:38 as the Cardinals built a 38-0 halftime lead.
The Pompano Beach, Fla. native was held to all of 15 rushing yards on 14 carries and threw two interceptions in last season's meeting with the Eagles, which the Cardinals won 17-14.
On the third play from scrimmage, Jackson split a sea of red defenders on a quarterback keeper and shot up the middle for a 69-yard touchdown run that put him over the 1,000-yard mark.
Jackson would lead two more scoring drives in the quarter, firing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Quick and later floating a 44-yarder to Smith to put Louisville ahead 21-0.
Quick caught another touchdown pass, this time from 10 yards out, from Jackson in the opening seconds of the second. Jackson later flipped a five-yard scoring pass to Cole Hikutini to make it 35-0.
Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino pulled Jackson in favor of backup Kyle Bolin with nearly two minutes left in the half.
Blanton Creque tacked on a 26-yard field goal with six seconds left in the half.
Jackson returned early in the third, only to immediately lose a fumble. The Eagles took advantage of the turnover and finally scored on Towles' 39-yard screen pass to Rouse making it 38-7.
Jackson promptly answered with a 13-yard touchdown run and scampered for a 53-yard score late in the third.
