Boston College used freshman running back Davon Jones' pass of 14 yards to Tommy Sweeney for a game-winning touchdown, defeating North Carolina State 21-14 to end a 12-game Atlantic Coast Conference losing streak Saturday afternoon at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.

The trick play put Boston College (4-4, 1-4 ACC) ahead with 4:43 remaining and the Eagles added a two-point conversion.

N.C. State's Nyheim Hines took the ensuing kickoff into Boston College territory and then made a 32-yard reception. The Wolfpack had first-and-goal twice, the latter after a pass interference penalty.

But defensive back Kamrin Moore intercepted Ryan Finley's pass in the end zone with 1:37 left to thwart the drive.

Boston College hadn't won an ACC game since 2014. N.C. State (4-4, 1-3) lost for the third week in a row.

Patrick Towles threw for 204 yards on 18-for-33 passing for the Eagles.

Finley threw for two touchdowns, completing 23 of 41 passes for 307 yards. He was intercepted twice for the third game in a row.

Finley's 23-yard scoring pass to receiver Kelvin Harmon with 8:31 to play in the third quarter. Kyle Bambard's extra-point kick gave the Wolfpack a 14-13 edge.

The Wolfpack led 7-3 after receiver Bra'Lon Cherry turned a short reception into a 79-yard touchdown play.

Boston College responded on receiver Jeff Smith's touchdown run when he went untouched 60 yards on a sweep.

N.C. State, which averaged more than 200 rushing yards per game in September, was limited to 31 rushing yards.

Boston College kicker Mike Knoll had field goals of 24 and 29 yards, the latter coming after an N.C. State turnover in the third quarter.
