No. 5 Washington cruises to 41-17 win

Fifth-ranked Washington scored 21 first-quarter points and never was threatened in a 41-17 win over Oregon State on Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
Sophomore quarterback Jake Browning threw for three touchdowns and ran for a score as the Huskies compiled 519 yards of total offense. Browning was coming off a game when he threw for a school-record six touchdown passes and ran for two scores in a 70-21 beatdown of Oregon.
Washington (7-0, 4-0 Pac-12) scored touchdowns on each of its first three possessions. Browning registered long completions on each drive. A 51-yard pass and a 44-yard pass to John Ross led to scores on the first two drives.
Browning then hit Dante Pettis for a 23-yard touchdown on the third drive and Washington was on its way to the win. If not for a late fourth-quarter score, the Huskies would have posted their sixth 35-point win of the season.
The Beavers (2-5, 0-3) faced an uphill challenge even before the opening whistle. Their top two quarterbacks, Darrell Garretson and Conor Blount, were injured in a 19-14 loss to Utah last week. Third-string sophomore quarterback Marcus McMaryion got the start and was ineffective.
McMaryion completed only 12 of 26 passes for 148 yards. He threw two interceptions.
The Beavers also were without leading rusher Ryan Nall. In his place, Tim Cook rushed 18 times for 108 yards and the late touchdown.
The Huskies' Myles Gaskin gashed the Beavers for 128 yards and one touchdown on just 18 carries.
By the time Oregon State's Garrett Owens kicked a 29-yard field goal with 9:55 left in the third quarter, Washington had built a 31-0 lead.
Browning answered the Beavers' score by connecting again with Pettis, this time on a 43-yard strike. Pettis finished with four receptions for 112 yards and two scores.
Ross also had four receptions for 115 yards.
After a touchback on the kickoff after Pettis' score, Victor Bolden Jr. gave the Beavers' faithful something to cheer about as he rumbled 75 yards to paydirt to make the score 38-10.
