Penn State finally got its rushing offense going and used it to steamroll Maryland for a 38-14 win on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.

Saquon Barkley ran for 202 yards on 31 carries with a touchdown for Penn State (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) and Trace McSorley added 81 rushing yards on 18 carries with a touchdown to supplement a big offensive day. The Nittany Lions churned out 372 rushing yards and Miles Sanders also got in on the action with a 25-yard touchdown run on his only carry.

McSorley also hurt Maryland with his arm. He completed 10 of 19 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Maryland's Lorenzo Harrison led the Terrapins with 76 yards on six carries and Tyrrell Pigrome and Ty Johnson each recorded a touchdown.

Maryland (4-1, 1-1) lost starting quarterback Perry Hills late in the second quarter with an unspecified injury. He was sandwiched between defenders and caught under a pile before he walked off the field under his own power. Pigrome stepped in and completed five of nine passes for 28 yards.

Penn State coach James Franklin had wanted his team to start faster in this game and that's exactly McSorley and the offense did. McSorley led a seven-play opening drive and capped it with a 5-yard TD pass to Mike Gesicki.

Maryland got a big scoring play on its ensuing possession when Hills hit Johnson in the flat and the running back burned Penn State's defense for a 66-yard receiving touchdown.

Tyler Davis kicked a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to give Penn State a lead it wouldn't relinquish. McSorley scored on a 9-yard run up the middle before Barkley blew through Maryland's defense for a 45-yard touchdown run late in the first half.

The third quarter was unremarkable for both teams until McSorley fired deep to a wide-open DeAndre Tompkins for a 70-yard touchdown and a 31-14 lead on the final play of the period.

Sanders scored with just over five minutes left to cap the rout.

Penn State lost starting right tackle Andrew Nelson to a right leg injury. He was rolled up on from behind and had to be carted off the field.
