Recap: Florida State 37, Citadel 12

No. 1 Florida State 37, Citadel 12: Jameis Winston threw for two touchdowns and host Florida State scored on each of its first six possessions en route to its school-record 18th consecutive victory.

Winston finished 22-of-27 for 256 yards and connected with Nick O'Leary and Jesus Wilson on first-half touchdown passes as Florida State (2-0) surpassed the 17-game winning streak the Seminoles posted from Aug. 28, 1999-Oct. 7, 2000. Dalvin Cook (67 yards rushing) and Karlos Williams (66) each ran for a TD for Florida State, which amassed 494 total yards.

Aaron Miller ran for 61 yards and completed 3-of-11 passes for 46 yards with a late touchdown toss to Rudder Brown for Citadel (0-2), which piled up 250 of its 322 yards on the ground. DeAndre Schoultz hauled in a 10-yard pass from Dominique Allen with 12 seconds remaining in the fourth to account for the game’s final score.

Florida State stopped Citadel on a fourth-and-1 play on the Bulldogs’ opening drive and Williams scored from a yard out six plays later to put the Seminoles in front. Winston, who was 16-of-17 for 150 yards in the first half, completed all four of his throws on the next possession – including a 12-yard TD pass to Wilson.

Cook capped an 11-play drive with a 5-yard score following another fourth-down stop early in the second quarter, and Winston sent Florida State into the break with a 28-0 lead with a 1-yard TD flip to O’Leary. Roberto Aguayo drilled field goals of 22 and 27 yards in the third to extend the advantage before Miller ended Florida State’s shutout bid with a 10-yard pass to Brown.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida State has outscored opponents 261-28 in its five home openers under coach Jimbo Fisher. The Seminoles also have pummeled their six FCS opponents under Fisher by a 336-37 margin. … Citadel was not penalized, while Florida State was flagged three times for 20 yards. … Following a bye week, Florida State opens ACC play on Sept. 20 against No. 24 Clemson.
