Louisiana-Monroe 17, Wake Forest 10: Pete Thomas scored the game's only offensive touchdown on a 9-yard run with 3:37 left as the host Warhawks rallied from a 10-0 deficit to beat the Demon Deacons for the second straight season.

Centarius Donald rushed for 117 yards on 26 carries, including a 39-yard scamper on the final series to ice it for Louisiana-Monroe (1-0). Thomas, a North Carolina State transfer, was 23-for-41 for 189 yards and led a 12-play, 66-yard drive ending with his winning run on a quarterback draw.

Wake Forest (0-1) managed only 94 total yards and was held to minus-3 net rushing yards on 27 attempts. Freshman quarterback John Wolford was 12-of-22 for 97 yards but finished with minus-40 rushing yards, including sacks.

After a three-and-out on the Warhawks' first series, Wake Forest's Steve Donatell blocked the ensuing punt and Kevin Johnson recovered in the end zone for a 7-0 lead. The Demon Deacons put together a sustained drive late in the half to set up Mike Weaver's 38-yard field goal for a 10-0 halftime advantage.

Justin Manton's 30-yard field goal got Louisiana-Monroe on the board with 4:50 left in the third quarter, and the Warhawks tied it less than a minute later when Mitch Lane picked off Wolford and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown. Thomas converted two big third-down plays on the winning drive, finding Alec Osborne for a 2-yard gain on third-and-2 and scoring from nine yards outs on third down.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Warhawks have won their home opener in six of the last seven seasons. … Wake Forest was without RB Dominique Gibson, who is suspended for the first three games for violating team rules. … The 94 total yards allowed are the fewest for the Warhawks since holding Northwestern State to 63 yards on Sept. 1, 2005.
