Recap: Samford 31, Georgia State 21

Samford 31, Georgia State 21: Fabian Truss scored a pair of touchdowns - including a game-opening 100-yard kickoff return - to propel the visiting Bulldogs.

The senior running back also put Samford ahead for good 21-14 with a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. Redshirt junior Jaquiski Tartt returned his fifth career interception 33 yards for his second career touchdown to bring the Bulldogs even at 14-14 late in the third.

Andy Summerlin, who finished 19-of-31 for 193 yards, threw his lone score 31 yards to Karel Hamilton to push the lead to 14 for Samford, which is in its first season in FBS and third season overall. First-year coach Trent Miles has former Boston College and Atlanta Falcons assistant Jeff Jagodzinski as his offensive coordinator.

Kelton Hill caught a pair of touchdowns - including the first of his career - for Georgia State. The redshirt senior, who in addition to playing quarterback and wide receiver in his career is the school's second leading rusher, scored on passes of 21 and 17 yards from quarterback Ronnie Bell.

Warren Handrahan booted a 48-yard field goal to put Samford up 31-14 and Georgia State finished the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown catch by Albert Wilson from Bell, who was 28-of-51 for 391 yards and two interceptions.
