Maryland 27, Virginia Tech 24 (OT): C.J. Brown dove into the end zone from 3 yards out in the first overtime period and the visiting Terrapins dealt a crushing blow to the Hokies' ACC title hopes.

Brown rushed for 122 yards and scored twice in the victory, which snapped Maryland's three-game losing slide and made the Terrapins (6-4, 2-4 ACC) bowl eligible. Brown also completed 12-of-25 passes for 135 yards, including a 16-yard scoring pass to Nigel King.

Virginia Tech (7-4, 4-3) got a pair of touchdown passes from Logan Thomas but lost for the third time in its last four outings. The Hokies, who finish their regular-season slate against rival Virginia, saw Thomas complete 19-of-31 passes for 210 yards but were held to a 31-yard field goal by Eric Kristensen on their overtime possession.

After falling behind 7-0, Maryland, more than a two-touchdown underdog, scored the game's next 21 points. William Likely returned a punt 63 yards for a score and Brown, who ran for 93 yards in the first half, scored from a yard out just before the half to give the injury-ravaged Terrapins a 14-7 lead at the break.

Virginia Tech tied the game with a pair of short touchdown passes from Thomas but in the overtime session, Thomas was sacked on third-and-goal by Andre Monroe, forcing the Hokies to kick the field goal. Trey Edmunds gave Virginia Tech an early lead with a 3-yard run and led the Hokies with 61 yards on 16 carries.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland's top three wide receivers in terms of receiving yards missed the game with injuries. ... The Terrapins had not beaten Virginia Tech in Blacksburg since 1949. ... Kristensen, playing his first game of the season, missed a 34-yard field goal in regulation.
