Virginia Tech 30, Boston College 23 (OT): Logan Thomas threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Randall Dunn on the first possession of overtime as the visiting Hokies rallied to keep their bowl hopes alive with their fifth straight victory over the Eagles.
Marcus Davis had 104 yards receiving and a touchdown for Virginia Tech (5-6, 3-4 ACC), which must defeat Virginia next Saturday to become bowl eligible for the 20th straight season, the third-longest streak in the nation. The Hokies, who had lost three straight for the first time since 2002, also snapped a seven-game road slide.
Rolandan Finch rushed for a career-high 133 yards for Boston College (2-9, 1-6), which lost its third straight game after squandering a 13-3 halftime lead. Quarterback Chase Rettig was 13-of-30 for 129 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and was sacked seven times, including once in overtime.
Boston College freshman David Dudeck's 12-yard touchdown run with 4:11 remaining gave the Eagles a 23-20 lead before Virginia Tech's Cody Journell grazed a 41-yard field goal off the inside of the left upright with 1:05 left in regulation - his third of the game - to tie it.
Thomas, who was 16-of-33 for 247 yards, connected with Dunn on third-and-4 with a high pass to the back of the end zone. Virginia Tech won the game when they held Dudeck to a 7-yard gain on a pass to the flat on fourth-and-11.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida State (30) and Florida (21) have the longest bowl streaks in the country. ... Davis was featured in a viral video this week displaying an eye-popping disdain for blocking in Virginia Tech's 28-22 loss to Florida State on Nov. 8. ... Virginia Tech leads the series 15-6.
