Kevin Hogan threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz with 5:07 remaining and the Cardinal held on for their eighth straight home victory.

Stepfan Taylor had 161 all-purpose yards and scored two touchdowns for Stanford (8-2, 6-1 Pac-12), which took over sole possession of second place in the Pac-12 North ahead of Oregon State (7-2, 5-2).

The Beavers led 23-21 with 8:34 left to play when quarterback Cody Vaz fumbled and Stanford promptly went 29 yards on six plays for the go-ahead score on Hogan’s pass to Ertz.

Markus Wheaton had seven receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown and Storm Woods rushed 15 times for 94 yards for the Beavers, whose final drive ended when they turned the ball over on downs deep in their own territory with 1:54 remaining.

Taylor had 19 carries for 114 yards and added 47 yards on two receptions, and ended the third quarter with a 40-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown that pulled Stanford within two points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Taylor lost his first fumble of the season with 51 seconds left in the first half. … Oregon State lost for only the fourth time in its last 55 games when leading after three quarters. … Hogan, a redshirt freshman, went 22-of-29 for 254 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in his first career start.
