Baylor 48, Sam Houston State 23: Quarterback Nick Florence threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns as the host Bears erased a 10-point halftime deficit to fight off pesky Sam Houston State.
Wide receiver Terrance Williams pulled in two of those touchdown strikes, including an 18-yarder with 6:36 left in the third quarter to give Baylor (2-0) the lead for good at 24-20. Williams finished with 131 yards while running backs Giasco Martin and Lache Seastrunk ran for fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Quarterback Brian Bell threw for 285 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tim Flanders with 1:30 left in the first half to give Sam Houston State (1-1) a 20-10 lead.
Bell, who also ran for a touchdown, had a pass intercepted and returned 73 yards for a touchdown Darius Jones with 33 seconds left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The win extended Baylor's winning streak, the nation's second-longest, to eight games. ... Baylor has scored 45 or more points in six straight games. ... The Bears visit Louisiana-Monroe next week before diving into their Big 12 season with a trip to No. 9 West Virginia.
