David Wilson tied a conference record with his 10th 100-yard game of the season and scored two touchdowns as No. 4 Virginia Tech hammered No. 25 Virginia 38-0 in the Commonwealth Cup rivalry game on Saturday.
 
Wilson, who had just 32 rushing yards at halftime and was coming off a season-worst 82-yard performance last week against North Carolina, scorched the Cavaliers’ defense in the second half with scoring runs of 27 and 38 yards to stake the Hokies (11-1, 7-1 ACC) to a commanding 28-0 advantage early in the fourth quarter.
 
With 153 yards in this contest, Wilson tied Don McCauley’s ACC record for the most 100-yard rushing performances in a single season.
 
The lopsided margin was more than enough for the Virginia Tech defense, which harassed the Cavaliers (8-4, 5-3 ACC) all game long, collecting four sacks and forcing four turnovers en route to recording its first shutout since blanking Virginia in 2006.
 
The blowout win for Virginia Tech sets up a rematch in the ACC Championship Game next week against Clemson, which handed the Hokies their only loss of the season on Oct. 1.
 
Quarterback Logan Thomas, who has thrown for 14 touchdowns and rushed for nine more scores during Virginia Tech’s seven-game winning streak, added two touchdown passes and another rushing score in this contest.
 
Virginia running back Perry Jones, who entered this game averaging over 120 all-purpose yards, was limited to just 28 yards in this game for Virginia, which lost its eighth straight game in this series.
