Bryn Renner passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns as North Carolina pulled away late for a 37-21 victory over visiting Duke in the annual battle for the Victory Bell.

Giovani Bernard rushed for 165 yards and a score and Dwight Jones led the receiving corps with all three touchdowns for the Tar Heels (7-5, 3-5 ACC), who snapped a two-game slide.

While the action on the basketball court is heated between the two schools, North Carolina has dominated on the gridiron, winning 21 of the last 22 meetings.

The Blue Devils hung around for three quarters, getting a pair of long touchdown passes from Sean Renfree in the first half and drawing within 23-21 when Anthony Boone came on at quarterback in the third quarter and hit Donovan Varner with an 11-yard scoring pass.

But Renner answered immediately, needing less than two minutes to guide a 70-yard drive capped by an 18-yard strike to Jones. North Carolina went 12 plays for 92 yards on the next drive, sealing the game when Renner and Jones hooked up on an eight-yard slant with 8:17 left.

Duke (3-9, 1-7) committed four turnovers and gave up 508 total yards.
