Recap
Derrick Coleman scored on a 1-yard run with 49 seconds to play and UCLA surprised visiting Arizona State 29-28 on Saturday to take over first place in the Pac-12 South Division.
Arizona State had a chance to win the game as time expired but Alex Garoutte missed a 46-yard field goal, his third miss of the game.
Coleman rushed for 119 yards on 17 carries and scored twice as the Bruins won their second straight game to climb into a tie with USC, which is ineligible, and Arizona State for the South Division lead. The Pac-12 division winners meet in the inaugural conference championship game at the end of the season.
The Bruins (5-4, 4-2) led 16-14 at the half as Johnathan Franklin and Coleman both scored rushing touchdowns. Franklin opened the scoring with an 11-yard run and Coleman dove in from a yard out to put UCLA ahead at the break.
Brock Osweiler connected with A.J. Pickens on a 35-yard scoring pass in the first quarter for Arizona State and Cameron Marshall scored on a 14-yard to put the Sun Devils ahead 14-9.
UCLA extended the lead 23-14 on a 76-yard pass from Kevin Prince to Nelson Rosario before Arizona State (6-3, 4-2) responded with a 9-yard hook-up from Osweiler to Jamal Miles.
Osweiler later capped a drive with a 1-yard run to put the Sun Devils ahead 28-23 with 8 minutes left. The Bruins fumbled the ensuing kickoff return, but held Arizona State to a field goal attempt which was missed.
