Recap
Oklahoma pasted overmatched Ball State, 62-6, and now turns its attention to next week’s showdown with rival Texas.
The Sooners (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Coaches’ Poll, extended the nation’s longest home winning streak to 39 and improved to 75-2 at Memorial Stadium under Bob Stoops with ease.
Oklahoma receiver Ryan Broyles became the Big 12’s all-time leader in receptions with 304 and is only 12 behind Purdue’s Taylor Stubblefield for the NCAA reception record.
Sooner defensive back Tony Jefferson picked off three passes in the first half, and linebacker Tom Wart returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown that put Oklahoma up 59-6 early in the third quarter.
Walk-on running back Dominique Whaley continued his breakout season, rushing for 109 yards and two touchdowns for the Sooners.
Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones completed 23-of-33 passes for 425 yards and five touchdowns, despite sitting out the fourth quarter.
Steven Schott’s second field goal of the first half drew the Cardinals (3-2) to within 10-6 early in the second quarter. But the Sooners scored 28 straight points and took a commanding 38-6 lead into halftime and put the game away with three touchdowns in the first four minutes of the third quarter.
