No. 11 Virginia Tech controlled the clock and the line of scrimmage en route to a 30-10 victory over host Marshall on Saturday.

The Hokies (4-0), playing at Marshall for the first time since 1940, jumped to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and were never seriously threatened. Virginia Tech had the ball for 35:58 and wore down the Thundering Herd (1-3) to win their 14th consecutive regular-season game.

The Hokies held the Thundering Herd to 6 yards rushing.

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas rushed for a 5-yard score eight minutes into the game and David Wilson added a 3-yard touchdown with 2:21 left in the first quarter as the Hokies built a 13-0 lead.

The Hokies added a 4-yard run from Josh Oglesby and a 41-yard field goal from Cody Journell to take a 23-3 lead in the second quarter.

Marshall pulled within 23-10 on Rakeem Cato’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson with 32 seconds left in the first half. Oglesby added a 5-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Wilson rushed for 132 yards and Thomas completed 22-of-33 passes for 229 yards.

Virginia Tech opens its Atlantic Coast Conference season next week against No. 22 Clemson, while Marshall plays at Louisville.
