Final Scoring Summary
Recap
Denard Robinson threw three of his four touchdown passes in the fourth quarter - including a 16-yard touchdown strike to Roy Roundtree with 2 seconds remaining - to lift Michigan to a stunning 35-31 come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame on Saturday in the first night game at Michigan Stadium.
Robinson had three turnovers, including two interceptions in the second half. But trailing 24-7 entering the fourth quarter, Robinson led the Wolverines to touchdowns on four of their final five possessions, including the last one, which began at the Wolverines’ 20-yard line.
The critical play on the final drive was Robinson’s 64-yard pass to Jeremy Gallon, who caught the ball short and dashed up field before being pushed out of bounds at the 16.
That play set up the decisive score, a perfectly thrown ball from Robinson to Roundtree on the right side of the end zone.
The loss was a hard one to swallow for Notre Dame, which took a 31-28 lead with 30 seconds left on Tommy Rees’ 29-yard touchdown pass to Theo Riddick.
The Irish fell to 0-2 for the first time since starting the 2007 season 0-5. And much like last week’s 23-20 loss against South Florida, the Irish beat themselves with turnovers. They had four turnovers against Michigan a week after turning the ball over five times against the Bulls.
Robinson, a Heisman trophy candidate, finished with 338 passing yards and 108 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines, who won despite being outgained 513-452.
Rees went 27-of-39 for 315 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Michael Floyd finished with 159 yards on 13 receptions.
Michigan’s Junior Hemingway had a game-high 165 receiving yards on three catches, including a 43-yard touchdown. He also had a 77-yard reception.
