Recap: Georgia Tech 49, Middle Tennessee 21

Tevin Washington passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more as Georgia Tech rolled to a 49-21 victory over host Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.

Washington threw touchdown passes of 73 yards to Tony Zenon and 71 yards to Stephen Hill as the Yellow Jackets (2-0) rotated between quick strikes and time-consuming drives against the Blue Raiders (0-2).

Washington’s touchdown pass to Zenon occurred on the game’s first offensive play. Hill caught his scoring pass to begin the Yellow Jackets’ third series.

Georgia Tech’s second touchdown came when Washington scored on a 2-yard run to cap a 17-play, 98-yard drive that lasted nine minutes and 37 seconds. The Yellow Jackets also had touchdown drives of 90, 82 and 79 yards.

Middle Tennessee narrowly lost to Purdue in its opener but was no match for Georgia Tech, which has scored 112 points in its first two games. The Yellow Jackets scored 63 against Western Carolina in their opener.

Washington’s 7-yard run made it 28-0 in the second quarter before Middle Tennessee got on the board on a 16-yard run by D.D. Kyles with 3:12 left in the half.

Orwin Smith scored on a 3-yard run midway through the third quarter to cap a 12-play, 82-yard drive to boost Georgia Tech’s lead to 35-7. Synjyn Days added scoring runs of 5 and 1 yards.

Benjamin Cunningham had a 1-yard scoring run and Sancho Martinez caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Murphy in the final quarter for the Blue Raiders.

The Yellow Jackets have scored 49 points in the first quarter through two games.
