Recap

Anthony Martinez kicked a 34-yard field goal in overtime to give No. 19 Nevada their biggest win in school history, 34-31 over No. 3 Boise State on Friday in a Western Athletic Conference showdown in Reno, Nev.

Nevada (11-1, 7-1) defeated a Top 10 program for the first time in school history, and was helped by two misses by Boise State kicker Kyle Brotzman.

Brotzman missed a game-winning 26-yard attempt as time expired in regulation, and a 29-yard field goal on Boise State’s overtime possession.

The loss eliminates No. 3 Boise State (10-1, 6-1) from national title consideration, and also ended the Broncos’ 24-game winning streak.

Nevada forced overtime with 13 seconds left in regulation when Colin Kaepernick hit Rishard Matthews on a 7-yard touchdown pass.

Boise State’s Doug Martin had scored on a 79-yard screen pass for his third touchdown of the contest to give the Broncos a 31-24 lead with 4:53 remaining.

Nevada rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit with 17 unanswered points to tie it 24-24 on Anthony Martinez’s 23-yard field goal with 5:17 left.

Kaepernick scored on a 17-yard run for one score and threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Matthews to pull Nevada within 24-21.

Boise State led 24-7 at halftime with Martin rushing for two second-quarter touchdowns, including a 51-yard run that gave Boise State the 17-point halftime lead.

Kellen Moore also threw a second-quarter touchdown, to Titus Young for 26 yards.

Nevada’s first-half points came on Vai Taua’s 5-yard scoring run.

Kaepernick passed for 259 yards and Taua rushed for 131 yards for his 25th consecutive 100-yard game.

Martin rushed for 153 yards and Moore passed for 347 yards.
