Needing two straight losses from Nebraska in order to have a chance at the Big 12 North title, No. 16 Missouri played with nothing to lose in shutting out Iowa State, 14-0, on Saturday.

Leading 7-0 late in the third quarter, Missouri (9-2, 5-2 Big 12) rolled the dice from their own 28-yard line and it paid off. On fourth-and-2, Tigers coach Gary Pinkel called for a fake punt. The call caught the Cyclones off guard, and punter Matt Grabner ran for 15 yards. De’Vion Moore scored on a 1-yard run minutes later.

Iowa State, on the other hand, had everything to lose. Playing their last game of the season, the Cyclones (5-7, 3-5 Big 12) needed a win to become bowl eligible. However, without starting quarterback Austen Arnaud (knee), the Cyclones' passing game struggled. Backup quarterback Jerome Tiller completed just 13 of 31 passes for 155 yards. He ran 17 times for 54 yards. Senior Alexander Robinson ran for 98 yards in his last collegiate game.

Six Missouri players had more than three carries and picked up 119 yards combined. Blaine Gabbert finished 17 of 29 for 172 yards. Standout tight end Michael Egnew caught seven passes for 77 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown.

The win was a school record 39th for Missouri’s senior class. Next week, the Tigers take on long-time rival Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium.
