Recap: Southern Cal 34, Arizona State 33

Joe Houston's 29-yard field goal with 3:06 remaining lifted Southern Cal to a wild 34-33 victory over Arizona State in the Pac-10 Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Big plays dominated the second half as the Trojans (6-2, 3-3 Pac-10) won their 11th straight over the Sun Devils (4-5, 2-4).

Malcolm Smith had a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the third quarter to give Southern Cal a 22-7 lead.

After Matt Barkley connected with Stanley Havili for a 22-yard touchdown to put Southern Cal ahead 29-14 in the third quarter, LeQuan Lewis returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, and Omar Bolden returned a Barkley interception 66 yards early in the fourth quarter to make it 29-27.

Steven Threet's 10-yard touchdown pass to Jamal Miles gave the Sun Devils a 33-29 lead. Southern Cal's Tyron Smith blocked the extra point, and Torrin Harris returned it 95 yards for two points.

Barkley connected with David Ausberry for a 2-yard touchdown pass with 3 seconds left in the first half, and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Marc Tyler earlier in the second quarter.

Barkley finished 26-of-37 passing for 214 yards, with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Tyler had 12 catches for 119 yards.

Threet threw two touchdown passes - one in each half - to Gerell Robinson, and was 24-of-41 for 229 yards and two interceptions.

Houston had missed from 27 and 35 yards in the first half.
