Recap: South Carolina 21, Vanderbilt 7

Brian Maddox filled in for injured freshman Marcus Lattimore with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown as No. 20 South Carolina defeated Vanderbilt 21-7 in the Southeastern Conference on Saturday night.

Stephen Garcia was 31 of 39 for 354 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Gamecocks (5-2, 3-2 SEC), who snapped a streak of seven consecutive SEC road losses.

Vanderbilt (2-5, 1-3 SEC) took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on quarterback Larry Smith's 3-yard touchdown run, but the Gamecocks tied it when Garcia hit Tory Gurley for a 15-yard touchdown just before halftime.

Maddox gave South Carolina its first lead with a 2-yard plunge in the third quarter, and Garcia and Alshon Jeffery hooked up for a 72-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Jeffery caught nine passes for 157 yards, and Gurley added 13 receptions for 109 yards.

Smith threw for 142 yards on 13-of-31 passing, and rushed for a team-high 46 yards on 16 carries.
