Southern Cal bounced back from two straight disappointing losses and warmed up for its showdown with No. 2-ranked Oregon by overwhelming rival California 48-14 Saturday at the L.A. Coliseum.

The Trojans (5-2) ripped through the porous Cal defense for 602 yards and 33 first downs. USC started strong and poured it on with 28 points in the second period to take a 42-0 halftime lead. Five of their first-half touchdowns came on passes from Matt Barkley, two of them to Robert Woods and two to Ronald Johnson.

Barkely completed 25 of 37 passes for 351 yards, a 191.8 quarterback rating, and five touchdowns. He was sacked only once. Woods caught seven passes for 117 yards and touchdowns of 16 and 10 yards. Johnson caught seven passes for 45 yards and touchdowns of 8 and 11. David Ausberry caught the other touchdown pass of 22 yards.

The Trojans were also effective on the ground. Marc Tyler rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown and C.J. Cable rushed for 71 yards.

Cal (3-3) got 191 yards passing from Kevin Riley, who completed 15 of 29 for two touchdowns, both in the second half when the game was out of reach. But Riley was sacked twice and threw a pair of interceptions.

Southern Cal takes next week off and returns to the Coliseum on Oct. 30 to play Oregon. Cal returns home for a game with Arizona State.
