Joe Martinek ran for a one-yard touchdown in overtime to lift Rutgers to a 23-20 victory over Army on Saturday.

Alex Carlton kicked a 26-yard field goal for Army on the first possession of overtime to give the Black Knights a 20-17 lead.

True freshman quarterback Chas Dodd threw a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to bring the Scarlet Knights (4-2) back from a double-digit deficit. He hit Kordell Young for a three-yard touchdown on the first play of the final quarter to make it 17-10. Dodd then hooked up with Mark Harrison for a 16-yard scoring strike to tie the game, 17-17, with 5:45 to play.

Earlier in the week Rutgers coach Greg Schiano talked about the bonus of having an extra day to prepare for the Black Knights' option attack, but it looked like the Scarlet Knghts could have used an extra week as Army (4-3) came out and dominated the first half, outgaining Rutgers 286-63 to take a 17-3 lead at the half.

The Black Knights racked up 195 rushing yards in the opening two quarters and Trent Steelman kept the Scarlet Knights honest by completing 6-of-10 passes for 91 yards. Four different Army players had a run of 11 yards or more in the first half and the Black Knights had a 12-4 advantage in first downs.

Dodd was sacked nine times and intercepted once but hung in there, especially late, and completed 18-of-30 passes for 239 yards.

Jared Hassin paced the Army rushing attack with 121 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The Black Knights finished with 286 yards rushing to minus-one for the Scarlet Knights.
