Recap: Indiana 36 Arkansas State 34

Ben Chappell threw four touchdown passes, leading Indiana to a 36-34 win over Arkansas State in a non-conference game Saturday.

The Hoosiers (4-2) trailed throughout the first half against the Red Wolves, who play in the Sun Belt Conference, but Chappell led Indiana's comeback.

Trailing 14-6, Chappell hit Tandon Doss for an 8-yard touchdown with 46 seconds left in the first half. A two-point conversion attempt failed and visiting Arkansas State led 14-12 at halftime.

While both offenses struggled early, a total of 37 points were scored in the fourth quarter.

Chappell's 27-yard scoring pass to Terrance Turner put Indiana ahead for good with 4:15 left in the third quarter.

Chappell completed 26-of-42 passes for 381 yards with no interceptions.

Ryan Aplin completed 34-of-45 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns for Arkansas State (2-5). His 22-yard scoring pass to Sirgregory Thornton with 56 seconds left in the game kept the Red Wolves alive, but an onside kick failed.

Mitch Ewald kicked three field goals for the Hoosiers from 20, 34 and 46 yards. His third field goal gave Indiana a 22-14 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Thornton scored on a 6-yard run for Arkansas State to make it a two-point game, but Chappell's 16-yard touchdown pass to Max Dedmond increased the lead to nine.

Aplin's 5-yard scoring pass to Dwayne Frampton cut the lead to two again, but Chappell hit Damarlo Belcher for a 65-yard touchdown on the first play of Indiana's next drive.

Trea Burgess gained 102 yards on 19 carries for Indiana.
