Saint Louis 64, New Mexico State 44:
Dwayne Evans scored a game-high 24 points, one shy of his career high, to lead the fourth-seeded Billikens past the 13th-seeded Aggies in the second round of the Midwest Regional in San Jose, Calif.

Evans finished 11-for-16 shooting and had 16 points in the first half for Saint Louis (28-6), which will play 12th-seeded Oregon in Saturday's third round. Cody Ellis added 12 points and Cory Remekun chipped in 11 for the Atlantic 10 regular-season and tournament champion Billikens, who have won five straight and have their highest seed in eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Bandja Sy had 17 points and nine rebounds for New Mexico State (24-11), which had its five-game win streak snapped. Sim Bhullar, a 7-foot-5, 355-pound freshman center, contributed 11 rebounds and three blocks for the Aggies, the two-time defending Western Athletic Conference champions.

Saint Louis, which led by as many as 15 points in the first half, limited New Mexico State to a season-low 16 points and took a 29-16 advantage into halftime. The Billikens, who never trailed, committed 10 turnovers and forced the Aggies into 16.

New Mexico State shot 27.9 percent to Saint Louis’ 46.3 percent. The Aggies outrebounded the Billikens 42-33.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Saint Louis set a school record for single-season victories, breaking the previous record of 27 set by the 1988-89 team. … The Billikens, who improved to 5-2 against New Mexico State, were the Aggies’ first NCAA Tournament opponent - in 1952. … New Mexico State blocked seven shots, increasing its school record to 193.
