Arizona State 78, UCLA 60: Jordan Bachynski took advantage of the short-handed Bruins and produced career highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the host Sun Devils in Pac-12 play. 

Bachynski, a 7-2 junior center, also blocked six shots for Arizona State, which owned a 49-29 advantage on the boards. Carrick Felix had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Evan Gordon and Jahii Carson contributed 12 points apiece for the Sun Devils (16-4, 5-2 Pac-12).

Jordan Adams scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half and Shabazz Muhammad scored nine of his 18 points over the final 10:27 for the Bruins (16-5, 6-2). UCLA played without 6-10 junior forward Travis Wear, the team’s third-leading scorer (12.5) and rebounder (5.9), who sat out with concussion symptoms. He averaged 16.7 points in the previous seven games.

UCLA lost an early lead after going 6:06 without scoring. Gordon’s 3-pointer with 55 seconds left in the first half gave Arizona State its biggest lead, 39-33. Bachynski (14), Felix (11) and Gordon (10) combined for 35 of Arizona State’s 39 first-half points. 

The Sun Devils scored the first four points of the second half to go up by 10 and a 3-pointer by Jonathan Gilling - his first points of the game - stretched the lead to 51-37 with 16:18 remaining and Arizona State was able to maintain a comfortable margin. Gilling finished with seven points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wear was replaced in the starting lineup by his twin brother, David, who finished with five points on 2-for-12 shooting. … UCLA senior point guard Larry Drew II entered the game third in the nation in assists (8.2). He finished with 12 points and four assists. … Arizona State backup point guard Chris Colvin missed his third straight game for violating team rules. Colvin averages 5.7 points while spelling Carson.
