Josh Gray scored six key points down the stretch as the host Red
Raiders held off the Cyclones to snap a four-game losing streak.
Texas Tech (9-8, 2-4 Big 12) had a 50-47
lead with 2:32 to play on Gray's jumper, but Will Clyburn cut the
lead to one with a pair of free throws with 1:44 to go. Gray's free
throws at the 1:26 mark pushed the lead back to three, but Clyburn
again responded, scoring a layup with 1:13 to go to bring Iowa State (13-5,
3-2) back to within one.
Gray again came through, upping
the lead to three with a jumper with 36 seconds to play. Clyburn
missed a 3-point attempt and Jordan Tolbert clinched the game with a
pair of free throws with 10 seconds left. Gray finished with 16
points, while Tolbert had 13 and eight rebounds.Clyburn paced the Cyclones with
12 points and 10 rebounds, while Korie Lucious added 11 points,
including three 3-pointers.
Neither team shot well from
3-point range, with Iowa State hitting 6-of-23 (26.1 percent) and
Texas Tech 3-of-13 (23.1 percent).
GAME NOTEBOOK: Iowa State came
into the contest ranking 12th in the country with 16.9 assists per game but managed only nine. … Texas Tech cracked the 50-point plateau for just the second time in five games. … It doesn't get much easier
for Iowa State, which heads home to take on a Kansas State squad - also
coming off a loss - Saturday. Texas Tech next travels to face
in-state rival Texas on Saturday.
