Washington State 74, Idaho State 39: Mike Ladd and Brock Motum scored 17 points
apiece as the Cougars dominated the Bengals in Kennewick, Wash., to win their fourth straight game.
DaVonte Lacy added 16 points for Washington
State (9-4), which held the Bengals to six first-half field goals and led 34-14
at halftime. Ladd and Motum combined for 16 boards and the Cougars outrebounded Idaho State 38-13.
Chris Hansen scored 12 points on
four 3-pointers for Idaho State (1-10), which has lost 20 straight games to Pac-12
opponents. Top scorer Melvin Morgan had just five points on 2-of-9 shooting. The Bengals have lost five straight since recording their lone victory against Montana Western on Nov. 29.
Washington State, which opens Pac-12
action against Washington on Jan. 5, closed the first half on an 18-4 run and
was never threatened in the second half. The Cougars shot 49 percent while limiting the Bengals to 37.2 percent.
Royce Woolridge had six assists and five rebounds for Washington State, which led 71-35 after reserve Brett Boese hit
back-to-back 3-pointers with 2:33 left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Cougars
improved to 6-1 all-time against Idaho State and 183-39 all-time against
members of the Big Sky Conference. … The game marked the Cougars’ first
regular-season contest in the Tri-Cities since 2009. …The Cougars were 19-of-27
(70.4 percent) from the free-throw line, while Idaho State was just 1-of-9 (11.1
percent).
