Final Scoring Summary
Recap
Baylor 64, No. 8 Kentucky 55: Pierre Jackson had 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as the visiting Bears snapped the Wildcats’ 55-game home winning streak.
Jackson’s all-around performance overshadowed his seven turnovers – matching a career high – while Isaiah Austin and A.J. Walton each added 11 points for Baylor (5-2), which avenged an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight loss to Kentucky (4-3) last season and collected its first-ever win on the road against a ranked non-conference opponent.
The Bears, coming off a surprising home loss last Saturday to the College of Charleston, trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but a 25-12 stretch over the final 9:55 of the first half allowed them to take a 34-29 lead into intermission.
Baylor stretched the margin to 43-33 in the second half before Julius Mays hit a 3-pointer to cut Kentucky’s deficit to three points with 8:22 remaining. Jackson and Austin picked up the slack the rest of the way, scoring 11 of the final 15 points for the Bears as they hit final six free throws to pull away.
Archie Goodwin led the Wildcats with 17 points while fellow freshman Nerlens Noel set career highs with 16 rebounds and six steals.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Prior to Saturday, Baylor was 0-18 all-time on the road against ranked non-conference opponents. … The home loss was Kentucky’s first in the John Calipari era as the Wildcats’ last setback at Rupp Arena was in 2009 against Georgia – the year before his arrival. The 55-game run also included a win at Memorial Coliseum in 2009. … The Bears defeated the Wildcats for the first time in eight all-time meetings.
