Southern Methodist 62, Utah 55: Jalen Jones set career highs with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the Mustangs downed the visiting Utes to remain undefeated at home.
Ryan Manuel added 14 points for SMU (7-1), which is 4-0 at Moody Coliseum and off to its best start in six years under new coach Larry Brown.
The Mustangs trailed by one with 4:52 left in the first half, but took the lead for good by scoring the last 11 points before halftime. SMU made its first six 3-pointers of the game, including three during the half-ending 17-3 run that included those final 11 points.
Utah (4-2) appeared to tie the score at 39 midway through the second half, but it was ruled that Jarred DuBois had his foot on the line during a 3-point attempt. Jones’ three-point play on the next possession sparked a stretch of 13 unanswered points and the Utes could get no closer than the final margin.
DuBois poured in a career-high 25 points to lead the Utes.
