No. 25 Texas 69, Coppin State 46: Sophomore Sheldon McClellan scored a career-high 25 points and the Longhorns scored 10 of the game’s first 12 points to cruise past the visiting Eagles.
McClellan made 7-of-10 from the field, connecting on three of his four 3-point attempts. After going 14-of-14 from the free-throw line to score 20 points in the opener, McClellan made 8-of-10 at the line against Coppin State.
Freshman Ioannis Papapetrou added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Longhorns (2-0). Texas outrebounded Coppin State 49-21 and Prince Ibeh chipped in with nine.
Patrick Cole scored 15 points and Troy Franklin added 14 for Coppin State (0-2), which was outrebounded 43-24 in its opener against USC.
McClellan scored 13 of his points in the first half as the Longhorns took control from the start en route to a 33-19 halftime lead. Coppin State made only 6-of-28 from the field and two of their 16 shots from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
