Recap

NO. 20 INDIANA 70, NO. 5 MICHIGAN STATE 55: Cody Zeller scored a team-high 18 points as the Hoosiers overcame a dominant performance from Draymond Green and ended the visiting Spartans’ seven-game winning streak.

Christian Watford added 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for Indiana (23-7, 10-7 Big Ten), which denied Michigan State (24-6, 13-4) an opportunity to claim an outright conference title by giving coach Tom Crean his first win in eight tries over his mentor, Tom Izzo.

If Ohio State defeats Northwestern on Wednesday, the Spartans will need a home victory over the Buckeyes on Sunday to avoid sharing the Big Ten regular-season crown with them.

The Hoosiers, who improved to 17-1 at Assembly Hall, secured their fourth victory over a ranked team at home – and third over a top-five opponent – despite 29 points from Green.

Indiana took the lead for good just over three minutes into the game and led by as many as 16 on a layup by Zeller, but Michigan State moved to within six on two occasions in the second half.

The Hoosiers pulled away late as the Spartans went over seven minutes without a field goal until Travis Trice hit an uncontested layup with 18 seconds remaining.

Green added eight rebounds for Michigan State, which saw its six-game winning streak in this series come to an end.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Green scored 16 of Michigan State’s 27 first-half points … Indiana’s 41 first-half points were the most allowed by the Spartans before intermission this season and seven more points than they allowed in all of Saturday’s 62-34 rout of Nebraska … Green shot 10 of 17 from the field while his teammates shot a combined 10 of 34.
