UNLV 75, BOISE STATE 58: Chace Stanback had 19 points and seven rebounds as the No. 20 Runnin' Rebels ended a two-game losing streak with an easy victory at home.
Stanback entered the game leading the Mountain West Conference making 45.7 percent of 3-pointers. He was 4 for 6 from long range and 7 for 11 from the field, a big improvement on his four-point effort last outing against New Mexico.
Justin Hawkins (13 points) also added four 3-pointers coming off the UNLV bench.
UNLV set a blistering pace against the Broncos, outscoring them 21-2 on fast-break points.
The Runnin’ Rebels Anthony Marshall earned his fifth double-double of the season, and had the most complete game with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. UNLV’s Brice Massamba controlled the paint with 14 points.
UNLV (23-6, 7-4 MWC) started fast. The Runnin’ Rebels outscored the Broncos 13-2 on fast break points, posted 12 assists to seven turnovers and made 6 of 11 3-pointers to lead 41-29 at the break.
UNLV pulled away on a 15-3 run in the second half capped by a Stanback jumper that put the Runnin’ Rebels up 66-43 with 8:51 left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Runnin’ Rebels made six of their first eight shots. … Boise State outrebounded UNLV 19-16 in the first half but was outrebounded 24-17 by the Runnin’ Rebels in the second half. … Boise State had its three-game winning streak snapped.
